PhD in chemistry, physics, or materials science, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience. Extensive expertise in thin-film synthesis techniques such as sputtering, PLD, and MBE, with a proven record of innovation across various chemistries. Strong proficiency in structural and chemical characterization, particularly of thin films and materials with novel structures or compositions (including diffraction, microscopy, spectroscopy). Experience assessing the optical, electronic, magnetic, and thermal properties of thin films. Demonstrated success in collaborating with computational teams, especially in high-throughput materials discovery. Commitment to laboratory safety and stewardship, with practical experience in handling hazardous materials.

About the Role

As a Research Scientist focusing on Thin Film Materials Discovery, you will spearhead thin-film synthesis initiatives utilizing advanced PVD platforms, establishing the experimental groundwork for autonomous discovery processes. This position involves collaboration with computational and AI scientists, as well as partnering with engineers to design next-generation automated laboratory systems.

Responsibilities

  • Grow: Formulate synthesis strategies to realize novel thin-film materials predicted by AI.
  • Characterize: Identify and control the crystal structures, defects, microstructures, and properties of previously unachieved compounds.
  • Analyze: Collaborate with AI and computational teams to develop predictive models of materials growth and properties grounded in physics and chemistry.
  • Automate: Collaborate with engineers to design, test, and implement automated growth and characterization systems.
