OrganizationReports to the Master, Staff Captain, and Head of Division as assigned.Key ResponsibilitiesThe 1st Officer will be responsible for:▪ Conducting bridge watches and navigational duties, along with testing GMDSS equipment with the Communications Officer, if applicable, and maintaining related logs.▪ Adhering to the Bridge Resource Management Manual and Safety Management System (SMS) procedures.▪ Overseeing freshwater storage and bunkering operations during watches, following plans set by the Master or Staff Captain.▪ Keeping accurate records of overtime.▪ Reporting all relevant occurrences witnessed during duty to the Master, including accidents, near incidents, and non-conformities.▪ Assisting with tendering and Zodiac operations as directed by the Staff Captain.Safety Officer Duties▪ Keeping up-to-date with the latest safety requirements and working procedures relevant to assigned tasks.▪ Developing and preparing safety instruction materials.▪ Conducting safety training for crew members as delegated by the Staff Captain or Master.▪ Performing routine inspections of fire and safety equipment as specified by regulations and assigned by the Staff Captain.▪ Planning and coordinating lifeboat mustering for passengers before departure from turnaround ports, including preparation of muster station checklists.▪ Organizing weekly emergency and lifeboat drills for all crew in accordance with the ship’s Muster Roll and Emergency Plan, ensuring a variety of scenarios are covered.▪ Compiling detailed reports for each drill, noting improvements and conclusions to be stored on the ship’s online document platform.▪ Presenting a monthly Safety Report to the Staff Captain, including Safety Work Orders and updates on safety activities.▪ Preparing for inspections and surveys, including fire and lifeboat drills.▪ Leading investigations into accidents onboard.▪ Maintaining records of all major and minor accidents, incidents, and near-misses.▪ Actively participating in risk assessments.▪ Ensuring the availability and proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all crew members.▪ Fostering a safety culture among all crew members.▪ Ensuring the good maintenance and readiness of all safety equipment.
