About the job

About Neuralink:

At Neuralink, we are pioneering groundbreaking devices that facilitate a bi-directional interface with the human brain. Our innovations aim to restore mobility to those paralyzed, enable vision for the visually impaired, and transform the way people engage with their digital environments.

Team Overview:

The Robot Optics Team is dedicated to revolutionizing the surgical landscape. We handle all optical engineering components of Neuralink's surgical procedures, focusing on our surgical robotics, enhancing operating room tools, and crafting specialized consumables. Our primary focus is on the robotic system that executes implant insertions, incorporating essential subsystems such as 2D and 3D vision systems, optical coherence tomography, and surgical illumination.

Our team manages the complete product lifecycle of optical subsystems across various robotic versions, from concept and design to production, testing, and maintenance. We also design hardware for the production and inspection of consumables like laser-machined needle cartridges. Our in-house manufacturing processes involve bring-up testing, the creation of hardware acceptance testers, and quality control.

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Robot Optics Intern at Neuralink, you will engage in building, characterizing, and calibrating optical and optomechanical systems integral to our surgical robots and consumables manufacturing systems. These systems encompass a range of technologies from sub-micron conventional imaging to laser scanning and optical power delivery. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and simulating optical imaging systems
  • Testing, verifying, and maintaining vision systems in robots
  • Troubleshooting and repairing existing optical subassemblies
  • Testing and validating optics consumables
  • Developing software for image acquisition and processing
  • Conducting preliminary evaluations of new imaging technologies for robotic applications
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to identify and implement process enhancements
  • Preparing documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to robot optics

About Neuralink

Neuralink is at the forefront of neurotechnology, developing advanced devices that interface directly with the brain. Our mission is to enhance human capabilities and restore lost functions through innovative technologies that bridge the gap between humans and their digital world.
