Role overview
This Security Engineer position is part of ZURU’s IT, Data & AI group in Auckland, New Zealand. The focus is on building and shaping a hands-on security function as the company expands. The role includes direct involvement in platform and AI security decisions, and integrating security practices into development cycles from the outset.
The Security Engineer reports to the Head of IT, Data & AI. The role requires working independently and communicating openly to help security practices thrive throughout the organization.

- This is not a CISO role focused on board presentations.
- This is not a ticket-based job waiting for others to resolve issues.
Requirements
- Approximately 3 to 6 years of experience in security or cloud security engineering
- Strong technical skills and a clear understanding of effective security practices
- Motivation to build and improve security programs, rather than only maintain existing ones
- Ability to communicate with engineers about configuration choices, with a collaborative approach
- Acts quickly and documents processes thoroughly
