Role overview
The Senior Android Engineer (Staff level) will join the Android Platform team in Chicago. This position plays a key role in shaping Reddit's Android app, with a focus on client health, developer experience, and app architecture.
What you will do
- Design and architect scalable solutions to support the Android app as it grows to over 100 million daily active users.
- Build workflows, tools, and CI integrations that streamline the Android developer experience and enable faster, safer code delivery.
- Establish and maintain guardrails such as lint/static analysis, automated tests, and AI-assisted reviews to identify issues early in the process.
- Develop and support systems that monitor Android client health and observability, including event tracking, traces, and dashboards to enhance user engagement.
- Integrate AI thoughtfully into engineering processes, such as code reviews and static analysis, to boost productivity.
- Mentor fellow Android engineers by leading design reviews, documenting best practices, and sharing knowledge about platform capabilities.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Android development, with a strong emphasis on architecture and performance.
- Proficient in Kotlin and Java, with a solid grasp of Android frameworks and libraries.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and up-to-date development practices.
