Role Overview
The Senior Applied Scientist in Recommendation and Personalization will drive scientific development for Crunchyroll’s recommendation, ranking, and decisioning systems. The goal: help fans discover and engage with anime series, movies, manga, merchandise, games, and more. This role works closely with Machine Learning Engineers, Product Managers, Engineering, Marketing, and Content teams to strengthen Crunchyroll’s position as a top destination for anime experiences.
What You Will Do
- Lead research and applied science projects focused on personalization, from problem definition and data exploration to model development, evaluation, experimentation, and iteration.
- Shape and define what outstanding personalization means for Crunchyroll, across app and web interfaces, email campaigns, and integrated systems for video, ecommerce, and manga.
- Demonstrate the impact of personalization through evidence and metrics.
- Work with engineering teams to bring scientific solutions into production.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Director of Data Science and Machine Learning within the Center for Data and Insights.
Location and Schedule
This role is based in Los Angeles, California, with San Francisco, CA as an alternative office location. Crunchyroll operates on a hybrid schedule. In-office presence is required three days each week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
