The Role
We are on the lookout for a seasoned Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our vibrant team in Santa Monica, CA. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing the services, APIs, and essential system components that drive the ATARS augmented reality system, enhancing fighter pilots' live flight training with synthetic, threat-relevant scenarios.
Your focus will be on constructing the backend systems that enable desktop applications for planning, configuring AR training scenarios, and conducting debriefs post-ATARS flights. Your contributions will include developing production services that manage scenario planning, real-time session state, telemetry ingestion, and the data platforms essential for post-flight review and analysis.
In addition to your core backend engineering duties, such as authentication, data modeling, performance optimization, and system monitoring, you will also integrate LLM-enabled features where suitable. These capabilities could encompass tool and action execution, workflow orchestration, retrieval systems, and tracing for AI-assisted workflows. Collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams will be key to delivering dependable, secure, and high-performance backend systems that support critical pilot training environments.
