Preferred Qualifications5–10 years of post-graduate experience in civil/site infrastructure design. Proficient understanding of Austroads guidelines and ability to interpret local council/authority requirements. Proven experience in stormwater (pit and pipe) and bulk earthworks design; familiarity with water/wastewater and services coordination is a plus. Exposure to WSUD design or integration is advantageous. Experience with Department of Defence projects is highly desirable, including knowledge of associated environments, approvals, and stakeholder expectations. Strong attention to detail and structured work approach, committed to delivering consistent, high-quality outputs. Demonstrated willingness to mentor and support junior staff members.

About the job

As a Senior Civil Engineer at AECOM, you will play a pivotal role in delivering significant civil infrastructure projects with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for managing portions of broader civil/site infrastructure assignments while ensuring adherence to budget and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee portions of civil/site infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret engineering data in accordance with established protocols.
  • Independently design essential elements of civil works, including:
    • Stormwater systems (pit and pipe networks, major/minor systems, detention, and drainage strategies).
    • Bulk earthworks (grading, level coordination, and cut/fill balance).
    • Basic water and wastewater infrastructure (reticulation layouts, service coordination, and constructability).
    • Integrate Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles where applicable to achieve practical and compliant outcomes.
  • Maintain a strong quality focus through rigorous design checks, documentation accuracy, and adherence to standards.
  • Develop innovative solutions for new challenges by adapting standard methods and leveraging lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to effectively manage project interfaces, including utility coordination, site constraints, and construction feasibility.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers to enhance their professional development and foster best practices in engineering.
