Role Overview:
The Senior Design Architect – Data Center will serve as the design leader and technical authority, overseeing the complete architectural delivery process for critical data center projects, guiding them from initial concept (LOD200) through to construction (LOD350). This position necessitates profound expertise in data center planning, multidisciplinary coordination (particularly MEP-heavy), constructability, and BIM-led delivery, ensuring that designs fulfill performance, resilience, and operational criteria.
You will spearhead client interactions, design evolution, and team execution, guaranteeing that solutions are of the highest quality, compliant, and feasible for construction.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design Leadership & Project Ownership (Core Role)
- Direct architectural design across:
- Concept/Master Planning (LOD200)
- Schematic & Design Development (LOD300)
- IFC/Construction Documentation (LOD350)
- Define:
- Data hall layouts (hot/cold aisle planning)
- Functional zoning (critical vs non-critical areas)
- Support spaces (MEP rooms, BMS rooms, security zones)
2. Data Center Planning & Technical Design
- Develop:
- Campus planning (including ancillary buildings, substations, yards)
- Space planning in alignment with:
- MEP requirements
- Redundancy strategies (N+1 / 2N)
- Integrate:
- Architecture with HVAC, electrical, and ELV systems
- Address:
- Fire compartmentation
- Egress and life safety
- Security zoning and access control layouts
- Prepare permitting drawings for the data center site and campus, demonstrating a solid understanding of permitting requirements.
3. Multidisciplinary Coordination (Critical)
- Lead the coordination efforts with:
- Mechanical, Electrical, ELV, and Structural teams
- Resolve:
- Spatial conflicts (MEP routing, plant spaces, clearances)
- Participate in:
- BIM coordination and clash detection reviews
- Ensure:
- Comprehensive, constructible designs
- Permitting coordination with external consultants.
4. BIM & Digital Delivery
- Lead concept design using AutoCAD (mandatory)
- Oversee BIM-based delivery using Revit (mandatory)
- Review models, drawings, and documentation for accuracy
- Ensure compliance with LOD standards (100 → 400)
- Provide accurate schedules and documentation
5. Client Engagement & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary architectural contact for clients
- Lead design presentations and technical discussions, ensuring alignment with project goals.
