About the job
About Helion Energy, Inc.
Helion Energy is pioneering the future of sustainable energy by developing the world’s first fusion power plant, located in Everett, WA. Our commitment is to provide clean, reliable, and affordable electricity, ensuring a brighter future for all.
Since our inception in 2013, we have successfully raised over $1 billion from notable investors, including Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group, along with new contributors like SoftBank and Lightspeed. Our latest prototype, Trenta, achieved remarkable milestones, completing 10,000 high-power pulses and reaching plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). Currently, we are advancing our next prototype, Polaris, as we move closer to realizing our vision of a fusion power plant.
Joining Helion now means becoming part of a dynamic team dedicated to solving real-world energy challenges. We uphold core values of urgency, rigor, and transparency, all crucial to achieving unprecedented breakthroughs in energy technology.
Your Role:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the energy management systems that power our fusion generators. Your primary focus will be on high-power electrical systems, including energy delivery for pulsed magnetics, energy recovery systems, internal redistribution networks, and grid-tie infrastructure. This position involves designing, commissioning, and optimizing systems integral to providing clean, cost-effective electricity globally. You will be reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering and will be working onsite at our Everett, WA office.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, test, troubleshoot, and provide support for high-voltage power systems related to pulsed magnetic coils.
Oversee the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of systems delivering pulses less than 1 ms at up to 5 MA and 40 kV.
Develop comprehensive system architectures and collaborate with designers to create schematics and installation drawings.
Lead design reviews to ensure cost-effective, scalable, and reliable engineering solutions.
Support the commissioning and ongoing operation of generator power systems, identifying opportunities for optimizing future builds.
Implement rigorous engineering practices, managing cost, schedule, and resource planning for assigned projects.
Mentor junior electrical engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance technical capabilities across Helion.
