About the job
Saronic Technologies is at the forefront of transforming maritime autonomy, committed to crafting innovative solutions that significantly enhance maritime operations through cutting-edge autonomous and intelligent platforms.
Position Overview
We are in search of a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive expertise in electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) camera systems to join our Electrical Engineering - Advanced Development team. This role emphasizes the research, evaluation, and integration of various imaging and sensing systems, including visible, thermal, and multispectral cameras, to bolster autonomous vessel perception, situational awareness, and target tracking.
The ideal candidate will spearhead initiatives in system benchmarking, performance analysis, and trade study development for EO/IR technologies across diverse market applications. This position merges hands-on testing, technical analysis, and system-level design to influence the future of Saronic’s perception capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Direct R&D efforts related to electro-optical and infrared imaging systems for autonomous maritime platforms.
Conduct research, evaluation, and benchmarking of commercial and defense-grade EO/IR camera systems, gimbals, and sensor modules both in laboratory and field environments.
Create and implement trade studies comparing performance, cost, reliability, and integration complexity across various market options.
Design and validate electrical interfaces and integration pathways between EO/IR systems and onboard computing, storage, and autonomy networks.
Perform performance testing including resolution, sensitivity (NETD), dynamic range, stabilization, and environmental endurance.
Collaborate across functions with autonomy, software, and mechanical teams to integrate EO/IR data into vessel perception and situational awareness pipelines.
Prototype and field-test camera system installations, including power distribution, data acquisition, and network integration.
Produce detailed R&D documentation, including benchmarking reports, design specifications, and integration guidelines.
Remain up-to-date with emerging technologies in imaging sensors, optics, image stabilization, and AI-driven perception systems.
Mentor junior engineers and assist in establishing internal best practices for optical system evaluation and selection.
