About the job
Join our dynamic team specializing in transformer stations where you will engage in the design and planning of station facilities within transmission and regional networks. Your responsibilities will encompass technical station design, electromechanical planning, interdisciplinary coordination, and technical clarifications related to constructability and implementation.
This role can be tailored to your expertise and interests, whether you primarily focus on primary systems, secondary systems/control, or have a more comprehensive role in station design.
At AFRY, we prioritize seeing the big picture of the project. In a relatively small yet rapidly growing organization, you won’t be confined to a narrow discipline. Instead, you’ll have the opportunity to follow station projects from the early phases and conceptual clarifications, through detailed design, all the way to implementation and technical support during the construction phase, depending on your preferences and comfort level.
If your background is primarily in primary systems, this role provides a chance to engage more closely with early-phase technical decisions and the interplay between electrical, construction, and civil engineering. Conversely, if your strengths lie in secondary and control systems, you will gain deeper insights into how technical solutions impact station layout, buildability, and operations. For those experienced in execution or tender phases, this position allows you to influence projects earlier, ensuring that the solutions are designed for safe, efficient, and cost-effective construction.
Your typical workday will include:
- Technical design and professional assessments within transformer stations
- Interdisciplinary collaboration across disciplines and borders
- Engagement with clients, suppliers, and other professional environments
- Participation in technical meetings, site inspections, and project follow-ups as relevant
We believe this approach results in more robust station solutions, and a more meaningful workday for you as a professional.
Opportunity for Professional Leadership Role
For candidates with extensive technical expertise and an interest in leadership, there is also the potential to assume a role as Project Manager or Discipline Leader within transformer stations.
This role entails responsibility for professional quality and coordination within station design, primary and secondary systems, as well as interdisciplinary coordination with civil engineering, cables, and lines. You will help ensure comprehensive, implementable, and technically sound solutions, often in complex projects for Statnett and regional network companies.
The position requires a solid understanding of the overall field of station engineering and the ability to lead, support, and develop other professionals. It can be adapted for those already possessing leadership experience or for those looking to take a natural next step in a technical leadership direction.
