About the job

Senior Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer

About Aetherflux

At Aetherflux, we are pioneering the infrastructure that will enable and empower the orbital economy. Our advanced satellites are designed for operation in Low Earth Orbit, harnessing sunlight to unlock a new array of capabilities—from energy transmission via infrared lasers (both space-to-earth and space-to-space) to on-orbit computing solutions and high-bandwidth optical data delivery. By innovating the generation and distribution of energy and data in space, we are creating unprecedented operational methods for both orbital missions and terrestrial applications.

Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt, co-founder of Robinhood, Aetherflux is supported by top-tier investors and staffed by a team of experts from leading aerospace and defense sectors. We are rapidly tackling intricate technical challenges to establish a groundbreaking category of space infrastructure.

The Role

As a Senior Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer at Aetherflux, you will be responsible for designing and implementing algorithms that dictate the orientation, navigation, and maneuvering of our spacecraft in orbit. Your contributions will have a direct impact on pointing precision, orbital control, and overall mission efficacy.

This role is characterized by high ownership, covering areas such as modeling, simulation, flight software integration, and real-world testing. You will collaborate closely with propulsion, hardware, and software teams to ensure the reliability of GNC systems from simulation stages through to on-orbit operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for spacecraft attitude and orbital control.
  • Create high-fidelity simulations to accurately model spacecraft dynamics, sensors, and actuators.
  • Implement state estimation algorithms (e.g., Kalman filters) for navigation and attitude determination.
  • Formulate control laws for pointing, stabilization, and orbital maneuvers.
  • Collaborate with propulsion and hardware teams for the integration of actuators and sensors into control systems.
  • Work alongside software engineers to incorporate GNC algorithms into flight software.
  • Validate system performance using simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and real-world data analysis.
  • Assist with integration, launch preparations, and on-orbit operations.
  • Analyze flight data, troubleshoot anomalies, and enhance system performance over time.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions related to vehicle and mission design.

About Aetherflux

Aetherflux is at the forefront of space technology, developing innovative solutions to harness energy and data in orbit. With a focus on creating a sustainable orbital economy, our team is comprised of industry leaders striving to overcome the most complex challenges in aerospace.
