Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience in the installation and operation of data center mechanical and electrical equipment. Preferred Qualifications:Direct involvement in data center projects. Experience with hyperscale or colocation clients. Familiarity with Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery models. Professional licensure (Architect, Engineer) is advantageous but not mandatory.

AECOM is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Data Center and Mission Critical team in the eastern region. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the technology sector, particularly within the data center industry, and will be equipped to address the unique demands for scalability, speed, and consistency in data center operations.

This role offers the flexibility of remote work from various locations across the U. S. where AECOM has offices.

Although primarily remote, occasional travel may be necessary for client engagements, key project milestones, onsite teamwork, or other essential business activities. Travel will be scheduled in advance and is expected to be infrequent.

AECOM stands as a leader in the global data center consulting arena, with a strong presence across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. In this position, you will collaborate with our international teams on high-profile, fast-paced data center projects for prestigious global clients. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that offers opportunities for career advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • HVAC System Design: Develop and design Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, factoring in cooling requirements, future system flexibility, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Cooling System Selection: Choose suitable air/water side cooling systems including Fan wall units and in-row cooling solutions based on data center specifications.
  • CFD Analysis: Perform internal and external Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations to optimize airflow and cooling efficiency throughout the data center.
