About the job

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Drone Defense Turret Systems

Company Overview:

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is an innovative defense technology startup launched by two former Navy electrical engineers with a distinguished history in robotics and software development. We are pioneering a compact, autonomous gun turret that utilizes cutting-edge computer vision and control systems to accurately identify and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our groundbreaking work involves tackling significant technical challenges, creating an exhilarating and fast-paced environment for skilled engineers.

At ACS, we foster an engineering-first culture that prioritizes technical excellence and innovation. Our founders' successful exits from two previous ventures, totaling $180 million in 2022, empower us to ensure that the groundbreaking technologies we create will make a substantial impact in the real world.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in mechanical simulations and electromechanical integration. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in designing for durability, reliability, and robustness in accordance with MIL-STD-810 standards. You will be instrumental in guaranteeing that our products adhere to rigorous environmental, vibration, and shock requirements while effectively integrating complex electromechanical components into our systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems that comply with MIL-STD-810 specifications, ensuring robustness under various conditions such as vibration, shock, and thermal environments.
  • Conduct mechanical simulations (FEA, modal, vibration, thermal) to evaluate the durability and reliability of designs under operational stress.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical and systems engineers to integrate electromechanical components, guaranteeing seamless interaction between mechanical structures and electrical systems.
  • Lead structural integrity testing and analysis to confirm that designs meet environmental test criteria for military-grade systems.
  • Develop and document mechanical design specifications, including detailed drawings, simulation reports, and testing protocols.
  • Engage in testing and validation activities to ensure that mechanical designs meet the necessary performance and safety standards.
  • Support prototype development and work collaboratively with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are effectively transitioned into production.
