About the job

Flatiron Health is working to improve cancer care through data and technology. The Durham office is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to join the Statistical Programming team. This group develops analytic tools and insights that help clinicians, researchers, and patients.

Role Overview

This position focuses on statistical programming using R, with an emphasis on real-world evidence in oncology. The Senior Research Scientist will contribute expertise to multiple research projects and help shape Flatiron’s approach to cancer data analysis.

What You Will Do

  • Lead statistical programming for several research projects at once, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Advise on complex epidemiological and statistical methods, study design, data limitations, and modeling approaches for the programming team.
  • Translate statistical analysis plans into R code independently, building analytic datasets and producing both descriptive and inferential statistics. Collaborate with principal investigators to create data visualizations, sometimes using innovative variables or advanced statistical methods.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Flatiron’s data sources, including EHR-derived real-world data, clinico-genomics, machine learning-extracted data, and claims data.
  • Apply knowledge of cancer biology, therapy, or epidemiology across major tumor types to provide scientific and analytic guidance.
  • Mentor and support other statistical programming staff.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver client-sponsored research studies on time.
  • Lead projects to improve Flatiron’s proprietary analytical tools.

Who You Are
