Join our team as a Senior Signing, Pavement Marking, and Signalization Engineer at AECOM, where we are dedicated to delivering exceptional transportation projects across Florida in compliance with FDOT standards, procedures, and requirements. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical leadership for the planning, design, and quality assurance of signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal systems on intricate roadway projects statewide.
The successful candidate will take on the responsibilities of an Engineer of Record, mentor less experienced engineers, collaborate with FDOT Districts and local agencies, and ensure that projects are designed according to Florida's standards, safety goals, and construction feasibility.
This role offers a hybrid work model, providing the flexibility to work from any of our Florida offices, including Tampa, Orlando, Coral Gables, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, or Tallahassee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the technical lead and/or Engineer of Record for the design of signing, pavement marking, and signalization on FDOT, Turnpike, and local agency initiatives.
- Develop, review, and finalize Signing & Pavement Marking Plans, Signalization Plans, along with associated quantities, details, and specifications.
- Guarantee compliance with:
- FDOT Design Standards
- FDOT Plans Preparation Manual (PPM)
- FDOT Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM)
- MUTCD (Florida Edition)
- FDOT Specifications and Standard Plans
- Lead the design of:
- Guide signs, overhead sign structures, cantilever and truss signs
- Pavement marking layouts, striping, RPMs, and specialty markings
- Traffic signal systems including mast arms, span wire, detection, interconnect, and ITS elements
- Work collaboratively with roadway, drainage, lighting, ITS, utilities, and structures disciplines to ensure cohesive and buildable designs.
- Engage directly with FDOT District staff, Turnpike Enterprise, and local agencies throughout:
- Concept development
- Design reviews
- Plans development
- Comment resolution
- Assist in design-build pursuits by crafting technical strategies, scope narratives, and preliminary designs for signing and signalization.
- Provide QA/QC oversight, including independent evaluations of plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers and designers in FDOT standards, best practices, and career development.
- Participate in field evaluations, constructability reviews, and post-design support as necessary.
