About the job
Senior Software Engineer
Department: Engineering
About Atomic Industries
Atomic Industries is pioneering a new era in manufacturing technology. From automotive and aerospace innovations to medical devices and packaging solutions, our mission is to revolutionize how physical products are created. Traditional manufacturing methods are often slow and reliant on specialized skills, resulting in long production timelines. We are here to change that.
Based in Detroit, we blend the industrial heritage of America's manufacturing heartland with the agility, intelligence, and precision of Silicon Valley. Our AI-powered platform addresses complex challenges in geometry, process planning, and fabrication, reducing production timelines from months to days—and soon to mere minutes. Beyond software development, we operate a fully functional factory where our technology generates production-grade tooling weekly, fostering rapid feedback and iteration.
Supported by leading investors, we are committed to restoring speed, flexibility, and capability to the American industrial sector. Our goal is to make manufacturing as dynamic and scalable as the digital landscape, thereby reconstructing the infrastructure of the physical economy.
About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer within the Platform Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in transforming groundbreaking research into scalable, production-ready software for engineers, machinists, and customers.
You will collaborate across various services and systems—including CAD and mesh pipelines, simulation infrastructure, and web APIs—to develop robust backend and data services that drive Atomic’s platform. This position is perfect for versatile engineers eager to engage with diverse disciplines and take ownership of complex, high-impact systems.
What You’ll Do
Design and implement scalable backend systems and APIs using Python and other programming languages.
Build and maintain services for geometry processing, simulation orchestration, and real-time data handling.
Design schemas and pipelines for both structured and unstructured data utilizing PostgreSQL, S3, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
Take ownership of and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure (including GitHub Actions and Hashicorp stack).
Collaborate with product and design teams to create user-friendly interfaces for tooling engineers and internal users.
Profile and optimize performance-critical workloads, including GPU-accelerated simulation tasks.
