ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop software architecture for simulation systems encompassing thermal, hydraulic, and multi-physics models of nuclear reactors. Collaborate and assist simulation engineers in developing physics models for reactors and subsystems. Establish and sustain software infrastructure to enhance Digital Twin simulation, visualization, and data processing functionalities. Contribute to the technical roadmap for thermal and safety analysis simulation, and create strategies for model tuning as frameworks evolve. Promote technical excellence by adhering to and reinforcing best practices in simulation software development, code quality, and testing standards. Assess and recommend third-party software tools, open-source libraries, and simulation frameworks for team integration. Work collaboratively with Hardware, Nuclear, and Electrical engineering teams to enhance software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing capabilities. Play a crucial role in delivering critical internal simulation products while ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.

About the job

Radiant Industries, based in El Segundo, CA, develops portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt reactor built for safe transport and designed to run for up to five years without refueling. These microreactors are intended to replace diesel generators and provide reliable power for critical infrastructure, including hospitals, data centers, remote locations, and military bases. Radiant uses established materials and advanced software to produce factory-built reactors. Founded in 2020, the company expects to test its first reactor at Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with customer deliveries planned for 2028.

Role overview

The Senior Software Engineer in Simulation Technologies will develop and maintain software systems supporting Radiant’s reactor simulation and Digital Twin initiatives. This role centers on designing the architecture, tools, and infrastructure that allow simulation engineers to model, test, and validate reactor systems. The work is closely tied to Radiant’s progress toward commercial deployment.
