About the job

Senior Spacecraft Engineer

About Aetherflux

Aetherflux is at the forefront of developing the infrastructure necessary to empower and connect the evolving orbital economy. Our innovative satellites operate in Low Earth Orbit harnessing sunlight to facilitate groundbreaking capabilities—from the transmission of energy via infrared lasers (both space-to-earth and space-to-space) to enabling on-orbit computing and delivering secure, high-bandwidth optical data. By reimagining the generation and distribution of energy and data in space, we are paving the way for unprecedented operational methods in both orbit and on Earth.

Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt, co-founder of Robinhood, Aetherflux is supported by prominent investors and built by a team of experts from leading aerospace and defense sectors. We are rapidly advancing to tackle complex technical challenges and establish a new category of space infrastructure.

The Role

We are searching for a Senior Spacecraft Engineer to contribute to the design, construction, and integration of core systems that drive our satellite platform. This role encompasses collaboration across various spacecraft subsystems—including structures, power, thermal, and avionics—aiming to create reliable, high-performance systems capable of thriving in the extreme conditions of space.

This position offers significant growth potential with an opportunity for rapid ownership and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team that includes experts in software, electrical, optical, and mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate spacecraft subsystems, including structures, power, thermal, and avionics.

  • Take ownership of components within the spacecraft architecture, from initial design to integration and testing.

  • Conduct system-level trade studies to optimize performance, mass, power, and reliability.

  • Assist in the development of spacecraft layouts, CAD models, and system schematics.

  • Plan and implement integration and testing campaigns, including subsystem and full vehicle assessments.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation such as requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and test plans.

  • Collaborate across teams in software, electrical, optical, and GNC to ensure optimal system-level performance.

  • Support environmental testing and validation efforts, including thermal-vacuum, vibration, and EMI/EMC testing.

  • Engage in design reviews (PDR, CDR) and contribute to system-level decision-making.
