Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze composite structures for prototype aircraft, encompassing both primary and secondary structures.
- Lead the development of critical structural airframe assemblies from initial design through to manufacturing and testing phases.
- Utilize an in-depth understanding of load paths, design best practices, and hand calculations to create robust structural configurations.
- Design composite layups, core configurations, and joint details that are optimized for both manufacturing and structural efficiency.
- Implement design for manufacturing principles to ensure cost-effective and easily fabricable designs for prototype aircraft, with preferred experience in composite sandwich construction and adhesive bonding techniques.
- Establish team standards for CAD models and drawings for both composite and metallic components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including structural analysts, to refine designs and validate structural performance through comprehensive finite element analysis (FEA).
- Provide technical expertise on design concepts, balancing risk, cost, and performance considerations.
- Assist the testing team and manufacturing suppliers to ensure that designs meet established requirements and specifications.
