Position Overview:

The Senior Structural Design Engineer plays a crucial role in developing airframe structures within a 3D CAD environment. This position involves conducting trade studies, optimizing weight, and creating structural joint concepts in collaboration with stress engineers in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) setting. Responsibilities include packaging all systems within the airframe, coordinating system routing (hydraulics, fuel, wiring), and laying out all fasteners and associated hardware. Exceptional documentation of design choices, effective communication skills, and collaboration with suppliers are vital components of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

IPT Leadership

  • Lead the IPT to advance structures, conduct analyses, perform trade studies, and support integration activities for the TriFan Demonstrator and type-certification program.
  • Facilitate design decisions with IPT members, prepare review materials, and engage in design reviews and related milestone events.
  • Coordinate and generate materials for all design reviews.
  • Report to the Chief Engineer to ensure design integrity throughout the vehicle's release and construction phases.
  • Collaborate with various IPT disciplines, including manufacturing, tooling, build teams, and stress analysis.
  • Oversee the baseline configuration of the vehicle's structural design and related kinematics.
  • Provide mentorship and training in air vehicle design processes.

Structural Design:

  • Manage structural configurations, weight optimization, and 3D system packaging.
  • Sign off on all engineering documentation, including stress analyses.
  • Conduct manufacturability reviews, support tooling design concepts, and coordinate design development.
