Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis (Master's degree preferred). Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.8+ years of experience in structural engineering, primarily focused on building design. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-discipline building projects and coordinate consultant teams effectively. In-depth knowledge of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry design principles. Experience in applying national codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and TMS specifications. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, SAFE, and familiarity with drafting tools used by production teams. Proven leadership abilities with experience in mentoring junior engineers. Exceptional communication skills with strong organizational and client engagement abilities. Willingness to work in the Austin office at least three days a week under the hybrid work model.

We are seeking a Senior Structural Project Manager to join and strengthen our dynamic team in Austin, Texas. This pivotal role is perfect for a licensed structural engineer poised to lead intricate building design projects, enhance client rapport, and contribute to the ongoing growth of KPFF's footprint in Central Texas and its surrounding areas.

In your new position, you will oversee vertical structure projects from initial concept through to construction administration. You will mentor a skilled team of engineers and play an active role in our business development initiatives. Collaborating closely with architects, developers, owners, and contractors, you will ensure the delivery of exceptional structural designs across various sectors including commercial, residential, mixed-use, educational, healthcare, and institutional projects.

This is a hybrid position, requiring in-office collaboration three days a week in Austin for effective mentoring, client meetings, and teamwork. While we value flexible work arrangements, this role necessitates a physical presence to foster leadership engagement, technical mentorship, and client relationships.

Your Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical and client liaison for structural projects, fostering strong relationships and ensuring successful delivery.
  • Lead projects from schematic design through to construction administration, overseeing schedules, budgets, quality standards, and team performance.
  • Review and manage structural analysis and design for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry building systems.
  • Direct the preparation of construction documents, including calculations, drawings, specifications, and design narratives.
  • Work collaboratively with architects, MEP consultants, contractors, fabricators, and specialty structural reviewers.
  • Engage with teams in both Austin and San Diego, supporting projects across various markets as part of an integrated reporting structure.
  • Manage Texas jurisdictional approval processes and ensure compliance with building codes, including:
    • International Building Code (IBC) and local amendments
    • City of Austin Development Services Department
    • Special inspections and threshold building coordination
  • Provide support during the construction phase, including shop drawing reviews, RFIs, site observations, and field coordination.
  • Assist in business development efforts, including proposals, interviews, and building relationships with local clients and design partners.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and designers, promoting both technical excellence and leadership growth.
  • Represent KPFF in industry organizations and local professional groups, enhancing the visibility and reputation of our firm.
