We specialize in identifying prime locations for renewable energy development, engaging with local communities, and forming partnerships with long-term asset owners to bring transformative clean energy projects to fruition.

We are currently on the lookout for a Senior Utility Electrical Engineer to enhance our talented team. While we prefer candidates based in Lowell or Boston, MA, we are open to applicants from our offices in Oakland, Troy, or Chicago for the right individual. At New Leaf Energy, we advocate for in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work model. Employees are expected to work in the office at least two days a week, specifically on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, while they have the flexibility to work from home or the office on other days.

In this pivotal role, you will assess potential distributed energy resource (DER) sites, craft regulatory policies, review proposed relay and integration schemes, and deliver engineering expertise to ensure seamless project integration with the utility grid.

Your internal collaboration will involve working closely with teams from Interconnection, Policy, Project Development, and Development Engineering. Externally, you will act as the technical engineering lead in partnerships with utility engineers across various service territories to design interconnection facilities and system modifications. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the distribution system while accommodating parallel distributed generators. A deep understanding of New Leaf Energy’s design philosophy, engineering standards, and their financial implications is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on distribution- and ISO-level utility impact studies, focusing on accuracy, necessary system upgrades, project design modifications, and cost assessments.
  • Assist project developers in identifying potential photovoltaic (PV) sites and estimating interconnection costs.
  • Review interconnection drawings and application packages to ensure compliance with applicable utility standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the technical components of the interconnection process at the project level.
  • Provide training and mentorship to the internal engineering team.
  • Engage in initiatives aimed at improving internal processes regarding time management and quality.
  • Participate actively in various state and industry-level technical policy working groups to advocate for policies and standards that support the clean energy transition.
