About the job

Join a Pioneering Company

At Palantir, we develop cutting-edge software that transforms data into actionable insights. Our innovative platforms empower partners to tackle significant challenges, from advancing medical research to enhancing supply chain resilience and aiding in critical missing person cases.

Position Overview

Apollo stands at the forefront of Palantir’s autonomous software management and deployment initiatives. This platform ensures the seamless and continuous delivery of essential software (Foundry, Gotham, AIP) across diverse environments, including on-premises, public cloud, isolated networks, and highly regulated contexts (such as IL-5 and FedRAMP).

As a Software Engineer on the Apollo team, you will be responsible for designing and operating a large-scale distributed system that facilitates the remote operation and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters. Our goal is to swiftly extract the entire state of a cluster into a portable, high-performance artifact, allowing for near-instantaneous cluster reconstruction—all while pushing the boundaries of speed, reliability, and scalability.

Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing backup and restore solutions for Kubernetes, utilizing proprietary compression technologies tailored to Palantir’s unique deployment strategies. You will also enhance our container artifact store based on the OCI (Open Container Initiative) distribution spec, which serves as the industry standard for managing container images and artifacts. You will oversee the core infrastructure supporting every environment Apollo engages with, from large-scale cloud providers to military transport vehicles.

If you thrive on challenges involving container technologies like OCI and Docker, storage solutions, and distributed systems, this role offers you the chance to delve into storage formats and low-level optimizations where milliseconds are crucial. As we automate cluster creation and management across varied hardware, you will play a vital role in expanding Palantir’s capabilities at the edge and addressing complex distributed systems challenges. You will manage the complete development lifecycle—from concept and design through implementation and support—while collaborating closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver impactful infrastructure. We actively encourage the use of AI tools (Claude Code/Codex/Copilot) to enhance productivity.
