We engineer and manufacture critical components such as valves, regulators, and actuators designed for maximum reliability in extreme conditions, with temperatures ranging from +900°F to -400°F and pressures exceeding 10,000 psig. As a mechanical engineer at SpaceX, you will leverage your expertise, experience, and innovative spirit to create cutting-edge solutions in aerospace technology. You will introduce groundbreaking products to our manufacturing processes, optimize factory layouts, implement rigorous testing protocols, conduct detailed root cause analyses, and drive the achievement of unprecedented component build rates at SpaceX.
This Manufacturing Engineer position supports Starship Components Operations at SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA. The team develops and builds the factory systems behind critical flow control devices and mechanisms for Starship and Super Heavy, including regulators, butterfly valves, and flap or fin actuators. These components play a key role in vehicle function. The group’s scope covers factory expansion, process flow, machine moves, and project planning, all in support of SpaceX’s long-term mission. Role overview This role centers on designing and managing production and factory layouts, with an emphasis on clear visual indicators and efficient material movement. The work environment is hands-on, with direct involvement in factory operations and collaboration with production teams. What you will do Design and oversee factory and production layouts to improve material flow and visual management. Visit vendor sites, negotiate pricing, and monitor project progress to keep schedules on track. Evaluate production lines, identify opportunities for simplification, and implement improvements.
