About the role

At SpaceX, we believe that a future where humanity explores the cosmos is far more thrilling than one where we remain Earth-bound. We are at the forefront of developing technologies that will make interplanetary life a reality, with a long-term vision of establishing human presence on Mars.

Senior Optical Engineer - Starshield

Starshield harnesses SpaceX’s advanced Starlink technology and launch capabilities to bolster national security initiatives. While Starlink serves consumer and commercial markets, Starshield is tailored for government applications, focusing initially on Earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads.

Our satellite engineering teams are tasked with designing, producing, and deploying the most advanced free-space optical communication systems and observation payloads globally. We seek skilled engineers to aid in the development of laser communication terminals and imaging solutions for our revolutionary Starshield satellite constellation. All SpaceX optical systems, including laser communication terminals and other optical products, require a mix of theoretical knowledge, practical application, and a fervent desire to tackle intricate challenges in real-time, resource-limited environments.

As a Senior Optical Engineer for Starshield, you will be pivotal in the design, validation, and operation of free-space optical systems. You will help shape the future of laser communication technology and directly contribute to mission-critical applications, such as developing next-generation star tracking systems for precise navigation in space.
