Responsibilities:Lead IonQ's research and development in quantum algorithms tailored for the finance sector, encompassing vital areas like portfolio optimization, risk modeling, derivatives pricing, fraud detection, and post-quantum security. Define and implement the quantum finance research strategy, establishing long-term technical directions that are in sync with IonQ's broader product roadmap and partnership goals. Design and validate quantum algorithmic frameworks that are suitable for both Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) and future fault-tolerant architectures, integrating knowledge in quantum information theory, circuit compilation, and error correction. Mentor and guide senior researchers and engineers, fostering a high-impact, results-oriented, and collaborative research atmosphere. Work cross-functionally with the Quantum Solutions, Product, and Business teams to effectively translate core research findings into practical, deployable applications for enterprise clients. Strategically engage with leading financial institutions and regulatory bodies to facilitate early adoption of quantum technologies.

We are in search of a Staff Researcher specializing in Quantum Computing for Financial Applications and Algorithms. This senior technical leadership position will be essential in shaping the future of quantum finance and security architectures, utilizing IonQ's profound expertise in hardware and algorithmic advancement. The primary emphasis is on integrating quantum theory, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and quantitative finance at scale.

As the ideal candidate, you will spearhead critical research initiatives, mentor junior researchers, and engage with global financial institutions. A vital aspect of this role is to convert intricate domain challenges into actionable quantum-enabled solutions. You will collaborate closely with IonQ’s hardware, software, and research teams to expedite the achievement of quantum advantages in areas such as financial modeling, optimization, and cryptography.
