The Role:
In the role of Staff Software Engineer for Developer Tools, you will spearhead the development of next-generation quantum compiler tools and features, focusing on their integration into quantum software applications, enhancing the overall developer experience, and improving documentation and tooling. You will establish high-level technical standards, mentor senior engineers and scientists, and apply your expertise to address complex challenges in quantum compilation, optimization, and hardware interfacing. Your leadership will be instrumental in promoting the adoption and enhancement of vital user-facing compiler infrastructure, ensuring alignment with cutting-edge quantum research, including advanced error mitigation and innovative compiler optimization techniques. Collaboration across organizational boundaries—such as Compiler, QEC, Applications, and Engineering—will be essential to support scientific breakthroughs and to define the technical strategy for packaging, documentation, and release processes of major components within IonQ's developer tooling ecosystem.
The Developer Tools team is responsible for creating the essential software layer vital for IonQ’s quantum software tools. In this Staff position, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this ecosystem and in bridging critical elements of our engineering and computing organizations. Your success will be measured by the effective delivery of cross-functional projects and the enhancement of technical execution across the entire team.
