THE POSITION
Saildrone is in search of a skilled Software Engineer to become part of our Security team. Our engineers wear multiple hats; on any given day, you may find yourself developing new security systems, collaborating with product teams on design choices, evaluating vendor products, or probing for vulnerabilities in our defenses. We're seeking a technical expert who actively identifies risks, passionately advocates for enhancements across products, and swiftly responds to emerging threats. You excel in complex, distributed environments and take full ownership of security across all levels.
This role requires being onsite in Alameda, CA in the Bay Area 3 days a week - this follows our hybrid model. Remote work is not an option.
THE TEAM
The Security team safeguards Saildrone’s fleet, systems, and customer data throughout our global maritime operations. Our vehicles navigate through diverse environments, from busy inland waterways to stormy seas and contested waters. We face unique challenges that you won't encounter anywhere else, and we want your expertise!
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing, developing, and deploying automated security systems for our drones and shore-side infrastructure.
- Reviewing designs and code from other engineering teams, focusing on identifying security vulnerabilities.
- Responding to security incidents as part of a rotating on-call schedule.
- Supporting audit processes for compliance standards such as NIST 800-171 or ISO 27001.
- Testing the company's security posture through various methods, including manual and automated assessments, tabletop exercises, penetration tests, and offensive scanning tools.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance security measures and ensure robust defense mechanisms.
