Join our dynamic team as a Structural and Blast Engineer, where you will leverage your expertise in structural and blast engineering to support the design and construction of critical facilities for the Office of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO). You will collaborate with project managers, architects, and contractors to deliver high-quality engineering solutions while managing risks associated with the global diplomatic portfolio.
- Collaborate closely with the assigned design manager at OBO to ensure that precise and timely technical information is provided to OBO leadership for specific engineering construction projects.
- Critically evaluate and provide feedback on drawings, calculations, and specifications related to structural and/or blast engineering, including design proposals from various federal agencies that may affect DOS facilities. Align review comments with contract architects and engineers.
- Act as a primary resource for structural and/or blast engineering design on specific projects, offering comprehensive advice and assistance during the design phase. Engage with architects and contract engineers to address established Department of State (DOS) design standards and tackle design challenges posed by natural hazard risks and local conditions.
- Deliver a wide range of expert structural and/or blast engineering guidance, including: (a) initiation and review of site assessments for new or existing buildings; (b) review of submittals and requests for information (RFIs) during construction; (c) participation in project planning phases; (d) evaluation of structural and/or blast engineering aspects in maintenance and repair proposals; (e) involvement in scope definition, design, and review of OBO's proposed projects, including new constructions and renovations; (f) assessment of structural and/or blast engineering considerations for buildings being acquired or leased by OBO to ensure compliance with OBO standards; and (g) represent OBO in technical structural and/or blast engineering discussions on interagency committees.
- Travel to domestic and international sites as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Provide consultancy to management on buildings and sites affected by natural hazards, explosions, and other significant incidents.
