AECOM is on the lookout for a Structural Engineering Project Manager to lead a transformative five-year, $3.9 billion Capital Improvement Program (CIP) focused on enhancing Chicago’s water services. Our projects encompass a broad spectrum of water, wastewater, and conveyance systems for federal, state, and municipal agencies, as well as private sector clients.
We are seeking a highly qualified Engineer with a Professional Structural Engineer (SE) license who has successfully led substantial capital improvement initiatives. Ideal candidates will possess experience in managing complex water and municipal infrastructure projects.
The Structural Engineering Project Manager will act as the representative for the Chicago Department of Water Management (DWM), providing oversight to various service providers in executing diverse CIP projects encompassing planning, design, and construction supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Project Manager with structural engineering expertise overseeing the development and execution of the capital improvement plan for significant water system facilities, including water purification plants, intake structures, pumping stations, reservoirs, hydraulic structures, and large conveyance systems for raw and finished water supply tunnels.
- Provide technical oversight in structural engineering for project implementation. Independently conduct engineering calculations and develop structural technical specifications, plans, and details.
- Ensure adherence to relevant codes and engineering standards/practices. Adapt established guidelines as necessary, formulate new methodologies, and apply existing criteria innovatively.
- Coordinate and engage in project presentations to DWM and external stakeholders.
- Lead conceptual project development and assist in the preparation of RFQs, design consultant selection, and final scope and fee negotiations for various assignments.
- Facilitate contract negotiations with design and construction management consultants to finalize project assignments.
- Manage project teams and monitor consultants’ compliance with contractual obligations.
- Oversee project production to ensure alignment with schedule, budget, and quality benchmarks.
- Supervise technical professionals and project managers, managing workload and staffing effectively.
- Monitor and report on financial performance and project progress.
