About the job
Join Swarm Aero, a pioneering company at the forefront of revolutionizing air power. We are crafting the world's largest swarming UAV and a highly adaptable network of swarming aircraft. Our mission is to launch an aircraft specifically designed for swarming alongside advanced Command & Control software, empowering human operators to achieve unprecedented operational success.
Our dynamic team comprises seasoned professionals who have successfully launched multiple startups, secured defense contracts totaling billions, and engineered over 30 innovative aircraft, drawing from extensive aerospace expertise with industry giants like Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.
Your Opportunity Awaits
Structures Design Lead
If you are a talented engineer who has felt constrained in your past roles, where your contributions often went unrecognized or were hindered by bureaucratic processes, we have the perfect opportunity for you. At Swarm Aero, a select group of engineers is designing an entirely new aircraft from the ground up. This is not an iteration but a groundbreaking machine intended for a mission that is just emerging in the modern landscape of warfare — autonomous swarming at scale.
Our team is intentionally small to foster a culture of agility and innovation, devoid of layers of management. You will be collaborating with a dedicated group of the best structures and airframe engineers, who understand the stakes and have the autonomy to bring their visions to life.
We are seeking a Structures Design Lead to join our team. You should have hands-on experience in designing composite airframe structures that have successfully flown, and you will take ownership of programs from initial design to production hardware. You must possess a deep understanding of load paths, laminates, and joints, and thrive in small teams where you are the primary decision-maker.
Your Role
As part of our elite engineering team, you will be responsible for the structural design and development of the aircraft, translating performance and weight requirements into feasible designs. You will generate CAD ready for production, size structures and joints under challenging constraints, and establish the design standards that will guide our work. Your responsibilities will also include leading design reviews, overseeing design for manufacturability (DFM), and mentoring junior engineers.
