Job Overview
We are searching for a skilled Structures Engineer to be a vital part of our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will spearhead structural design initiatives for our cutting-edge autonomous surface vessels (ASVs), ensuring their structural integrity and operational reliability.
Responsibilities
Lead the structural design of ASV systems and subsystems, guiding projects from initial concept through prototyping and production phases.
Oversee and manage design milestones (PDR, CDR) and timelines for all hardware components.
Facilitate design review sessions for structural systems and subsystems.
Assist in the initial prototyping and assembly of new ASV platforms and their variants.
Support the procurement process for prototype hardware and aid in supplier selection.
Generate comprehensive engineering design documents, including:
3D models using Siemens NX (preferred) or SolidWorks.
2D drawings adhering to applicable standards (ASME Y14.5).
Conduct preliminary structural sizing through hand calculations based on fundamental engineering principles.
Collaborate with hardware, product development, and production teams to refine designs based on identified load cases.
Create detailed technical reports and documentation to convey design decisions and rationale to internal teams and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in structural analysis and simulation, utilizing both hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as Femap (preferred) or ANSYS.
In-depth knowledge of structural mechanics and materials science, with practical experience in applying these concepts to real-world engineering challenges.
Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers, providing technical direction in structural analysis techniques and best practices.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
