About the job
Saronic Technologies is at the forefront of transforming autonomy in maritime environments, committed to crafting cutting-edge solutions that elevate maritime operations through innovative autonomous and intelligent platforms.
Job Overview
We are on the lookout for a dynamic and driven Structures Test Engineer to bolster our advanced maritime mechanical team, focusing on the development and deployment of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) for applications within the Department of Defense. This pivotal role encompasses the design, construction, and testing of complex mechanical structures and fluid systems, facilitating full-scale and sub-scale vessel test campaigns in real-world, dynamic settings.
This hands-on, multidisciplinary engineering position supports a broad spectrum of structural development efforts, from component testing to comprehensive system validation, vital for enabling autonomy in naval operations.
Responsibilities
Design and implement test stand concepts, fabrication drawings, wiring schematics, and instrumentation lists tailored specifically for maritime platforms.
Conduct design, analysis, and validation of structural systems, fluid systems, and dynamic mechanisms for ASV subsystems.
Oversee the construction, integration, and commissioning of structural test setups, including mechanical fabrication and instrumentation.
Lead and perform thorough mechanical and structural testing of marine components and systems, frequently in outdoor, field-based environments.
Collaborate closely with naval architects, autonomy engineers, and control systems teams to ensure test fidelity and relevance to mission performance.
Maintain detailed records of test data, design modifications, and test reports to ensure traceability for DoD certification and reporting.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in designing and operating structural test equipment.
Hands-on experience in the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical structures or systems.
Professional experience with structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or mechanical testing methodologies.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably Siemens NX/Unigraphics).
Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Finite Element Analysis tools (such as ANSYS or NASTRAN), and design of large steel or aluminum structures.
