As a vital member of our team, the Superintendent for Underground Utilities & Civil Construction will oversee projects from initiation through to final inspection, demonstrating the technical expertise necessary to proactively address challenges in the field before they impact timelines or budgets. Our client, a reputable general engineering contractor based in Southern California, has been a trusted partner in public works for over fifty years, collaborating with public agencies, regional utility companies, and major general contractors. They specialize in substantial underground infrastructure projects including sewer, storm drain, waterline, vaults, conduits, and cable systems. We seek an experienced Superintendent who can lead these initiatives confidently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all field operations related to underground utility and general engineering projects from groundbreaking through to project completion.
- Coordinate daily activities of crews, subcontractors, equipment deployment, and site logistics to ensure adherence to schedule and budget.
- Act as the primary contact for public agency inspectors, utility owners, and client representatives in the field.
- Promote and enforce job site safety standards; conduct hands-on safety training rather than relying solely on paperwork.
- Identify and resolve conflicts in the field including design discrepancies, utility conflicts, and unforeseen conditions before they escalate.
- Collaborate with estimating and project management teams on Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, and impacts on scheduling.
- Mentor field foremen and crew leaders, setting the standard for operational excellence on projects.
