RequirementsEssential QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experiencePractical experience in debugging complex subsystems involving microprocessors and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devicesProficiency in reading and interpreting C++, Python, and similar embedded systems languagesStrong skills in data visualization techniques and toolsExperience with Linux, Git, command line tools, and standard diagnostic equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, log analyzers)Experience in designing and building mechanical test fixtures, diagnostic tools, or custom hardwareSolid foundation in troubleshooting electrical and embedded systemsExperience supporting hardware bring-up, calibration, or production validation processesFamiliarity with ROS2, behavior trees, or motion-planning stacks is advantageousExperience with humanoid or legged robotic systems is a plus

The Role

As a Systems Engineer on our Diagnostics Engineering team, you will spearhead initiatives to diagnose robot malfunctions across mechanical, electrical, and software sectors. Your role will involve crafting tools and workflows for swift and precise failure analysis, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to promote design enhancements. This position is vital for boosting system reliability and expediting hardware development timelines.

Your Responsibilities

  • Identify and document root causes of mechanical, electrical, software, and control failures

  • Utilize engineering principles to troubleshoot intricate mechanical failures, including interpreting drawings, mechanisms, tolerances, fits, and inspection techniques

  • Employ electrical and system-level instrumentation to diagnose faults in robots and their components

  • Create diagnostic tools and scripts using C++ and Python to facilitate diagnostics, integration, and data analysis

  • Generate comprehensive reports from diagnostic and fleet data to inform decision-making and track progress

  • Work closely with prototyping and design engineers to iterate on hardware modifications informed by diagnostic insights

  • Effectively communicate design recommendations to hardware, electrical, and controls teams
