About the job
At distributed-spectrum, we are pioneering cutting-edge systems that drive the future of radio spectrum intelligence. Our mission involves collecting radio data globally, training sophisticated neural networks to interpret this data, and deploying them on the smallest chips available. We are tackling complex, unprecedented challenges where conventional solutions fall short, and have built our unique technology stack from the ground up, including innovative embedding model architectures, custom GPU kernels, and beyond.
By joining distributed-spectrum, you will take ownership of significant components in a rapidly expanding AI research organization. You will collaborate with a highly skilled team with decades of expertise in probabilistic machine learning, accelerated computing, embedded systems, and signal theory. This is an opportunity for you to advance your career in an area that genuinely interests you. If you're motivated by solving challenging problems without compromising on technical excellence, business value, and real-world impact, you will thrive in our environment. We foster a culture of high ownership and trust, working together in the office five days a week.
The Role
We are seeking a Tech Lead Manager (Platform) to spearhead our platform engineering efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for developing shared services, data pathways, tooling, and technical foundations that are pivotal to enhancing customer experiences.
This staff-level position is designed for an individual who is a full-stack developer with a systems-oriented mindset. You will engage in writing and reviewing actual code, making critical technical decisions, leading a motivated team, and possessing a robust understanding of networks, operating systems, and real-world constraints to construct software that performs reliably under challenging conditions.
Our product operates at the intersection of software and the physical world, meaning that your decisions regarding data paths, pub/sub architecture, map rendering, offline functionality, and networking will directly influence customer experiences. The ideal candidate will not only work within these constraints but will also grasp the reasons they exist.
What You'll Own
• Architecture and evolution of our platform and shared services layer
• Data pathways from sensor processing to customer-facing web and Android experiences
• Technical decisions across the stack, including library selection, system design, and deployment
• Translating customer deployment insights into a clear, actionable development strategy
• Engineering practices that elevate quality, reliability, and execution standards
• A small team of engineers that you will mentor, develop, and recruit alongside
How You'll Lead
- This role prioritizes technical expertise over managerial responsibilities.
• Maintain deep involvement in system design and technical decision-making
• Make key choices regarding technology, including tool selection for data pathways, implementation of pub/sub systems, and map library usage
• Integrate feedback from team members and stakeholders to refine processes and outcomes.
