The Technical Project Manager for Business Intelligence (BI) and Azure Data Platform is pivotal in ensuring the systematic delivery, coordination, and ongoing enhancement of a global BI and Azure Data Platform. This position serves as the key coordination point between business stakeholders, self-service BI teams, and the platform engineering group, guaranteeing prompt delivery, adherence to governance standards, operational stability, and alignment with the overarching enterprise data strategy.
Team/Project Insight
This role is integrated within a global Cloud Data & Analytics organization that oversees the operation and evolution of an enterprise-scale BI and Azure Data Platform. The team collaborates across various regions and functions, facilitating governed self-service analytics while ensuring platform reliability, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage technical project initiatives focused on BI and Azure Data Platform, ensuring structured planning, execution, and successful delivery.
- Function as a proxy Product Owner, effectively translating business needs into well-defined work packages, user stories, and prioritized backlogs.
- Coordinate project delivery among business stakeholders, self-service BI teams, and central platform engineering.
- Oversee dependencies, timelines, risks, and deliverables across multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Utilize agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) while incorporating traditional project management methodologies as necessary.
- Support and mentor teams in leveraging Microsoft BI and Power Platform solutions, including Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
- Ensure alignment with Azure Cloud & Data architecture, including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, dbt, and data warehousing principles.
- Manage incident and operational processes, coordinating resolutions with engineering teams and facilitating clear communication with stakeholders.
- Guarantee service stability, minimize disruptions, and foster continuous improvement of the BI platform.
- Implement enterprise governance, security, and compliance standards, including Azure identity, access management, and data governance.
- Coach teams on self-service BI best practices, platform standards, and governance requirements.
- Facilitate alignment among stakeholders, manage expectations, and aid in decision-making across both technical and non-technical teams.
- Proactively identify and eliminate barriers to delivery, optimizing processes and methodologies.
- Maintain transparency through structured reporting, thorough documentation, and the use of tools such as Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
