BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Minimum of 1 year of experience in high-temperature ceramics or technical glass, including academic projects, internships, or professional experience. PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Master's degree in an engineering discipline. Proven experience developing material systems from concept to final product. Experience collaborating with system, design, and analysis engineers. Familiarity with hypersonic, spaceflight, or re-entry environments, including material degradation mechanisms and failure modes. Knowledge of state-of-the-art thermal protection systems and system-level design. Hands-on experience with thermal protection materials and manufacturing processes.

In this pivotal role within our thermal protection system research and development team, you will be responsible for the innovation and enhancement of low-density alumina-silica refractory insulators. Your expertise and creativity will be crucial in crafting advanced solutions for spacecraft reusability. You will engage in designing, testing, and analyzing materials for the next-generation Starship spacecraft, aimed at transforming humanity into an interplanetary species. This role offers significant collaboration with design and production engineers, allowing you to contribute to the optimization of production designs as we strive for aircraft-like operations on Starship.
