Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, construct, and test turbopumps for liquid rocket engines. Oversee turbomachinery design (CAD), technical drawings, and manufacturing plans. Conduct hydrodynamic and aerodynamic sizing and flowpath design and analysis for inducers, impellers, diffusers, nozzles, turbines, and other turbomachinery components. Perform hydrostatic bearing sizing, performance analysis, and develop coatings for turbopump bearings. Evaluate axial thrust balance during transient and steady-state operating conditions. Conduct tolerance stackups, manage build documentation, and ensure constructed pumps meet design specifications. Lead test verification activities to confirm tests fulfill requirements. Assist with turbopump testing, data analysis, inspections, and decision-making on go/no-go statuses. Manage performance tracking for various components (inducers, impellers, turbines, axial/radial bearing capacities, cavitation, etc.). Develop design improvement strategies for turbopump components, focusing on manufacturing enhancements to reduce costs and lead times. Utilize and develop high-speed data tools to assess turbopump vibration and rotor dynamics performance. Address hardware build discrepancies through effective resolution. Conduct fault tree analysis and corrective action to enhance reliability.

Job Overview

As a Turbomachinery Engineer at Stoke, you will take complete ownership of the design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and validation of advanced reusable rocket engines' turbomachinery systems. You will explore cutting-edge design and manufacturing techniques to tackle complex turbomachinery challenges and consistently enhance your designs. Your focus will be on creating rapidly reusable rocket engines intended for daily operations.
