POSITION SUMMARY:
The Weld Supervisor plays a pivotal role in managing the daily operations of the Welding department, which encompasses Senior Class A, Class A, Class B, and Class C welders. This position is essential for ensuring that the team meets production goals, maintains quality and safety standards, and optimizes throughput and machine efficiency. The Supervisor is also responsible for scheduling, training, ensuring process compliance, and facilitating effective communication between operators and leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Directly oversee Weld team members, including Senior Class A, Class A, Class B, and Class C welders.
- Delegate daily tasks, assess performance, and guarantee compliance with work instructions and schematics.
- Conduct employee performance reviews, approve weekly time submissions, and manage disciplinary actions in line with GSM Policies and Procedures.
- Offer mentorship and training to promote skill enhancement and cross-training across various levels.
- Work collaboratively to identify and mitigate barriers that hinder cost efficiency and scheduling.
- Your leadership should simplify the process for employees to produce quality products and enhance customer interactions with GSM.
Production & Operations Management:
- Supervise the daily operations of the Welding department, ensuring throughput aligns with production schedules.
- Monitor productivity levels and drive initiatives to minimize downtime and idle hours.
- Ensure the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of welding equipment to maximize efficiency and prolong equipment lifespan.
- Collaborate with NDT and other teams to resolve production flow challenges.
Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, NAVSEA, and customer specifications.
- Work alongside Quality Inspectors to address nonconformities, implement corrective actions, and foster continuous improvement.
- Encourage a culture of quality and accountability throughout the Welding department.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement Lean methodologies to enhance workflow, decrease waste, and boost throughput.
- Track process performance and spearhead root cause and corrective action initiatives for recurring issues.
- Advise on tooling, fixturing, and process enhancements to improve productivity and quality.
Safety & Communication:
- Promote a safe workplace and ensure compliance with all OSHA and GSM safety regulations.
- Maintain clear communication with machinists, operations leadership, and different departments.
- Provide regular updates on job status, machine availability, and resource needs.
- Exhibit responsibility and accountability in maintaining a professional, safe, and clean environment by adhering to Granite State Manufacturing's policies.
