Full-Time|Remote|Remote - North America

Hello! I'm Chris, the Head of Product Design at Ashby. We are on the lookout for a dynamic and self-driven Staff Product Designer eager to revolutionize the way modern software is crafted. At Ashby, you will wear multiple hats—acting as a designer, product manager, consultant, and design system steward, or a blend of these roles. If this multifaceted approach excites you, we encourage you to read further. Our innovative methodology is yielding remarkable results—we are experiencing over 100% year-on-year growth, serving renowned clients like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our exceptional growth and retention metrics place us at the forefront of our industry, boasting tens of millions in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), minimal churn, and a sustainable runway. Our endeavors are backed by esteemed investors such as Y Combinator, Elad Gil, Lachy Groom, and more! We look forward to sharing more insights once we connect. Our Working PhilosophyIn my prior positions, product teams typically comprised a product manager, a designer, and a handful of engineers. This may resonate with you! The conventional flow often involves the product manager briefing the designer, who then crafts designs, which are subsequently handed off to engineers. At Ashby, we adopt a more principled methodology. Experienced designers know that design is required in varying capacities for different projects. There were times when I was tasked with creating yet another settings page when all that was needed was for an engineer to leverage existing components and follow my documentation. Conversely, there were instances where I felt I should lead a project from inception through completion, managing updates and resources rather than relying on a separate product manager. This principled approach has empowered Ashby to outpace established competitors across various sectors. We refuse to accept mediocrity—we actively seek to break the mold.Currently, I report to Benji, our co-founder and CEO, who along with Abhik, our other founder, holds a profound appreciation for design. This may seem counterintuitive given the number of full-time designers on our team, yet the belief here is that design ownership should rest with the entire product team, not solely with a designated group of designers. At Ashby, the role of the design department is not to make every design decision but to empower our product team to enhance their decision-making capabilities and refine choices made by PMs and engineers, while tackling significant design challenges ourselves.
