Qualifications

Your QualificationsA minimum of 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role within a VC-backed tech or SaaS company (30–200 employees). CPA certification is required, coupled with extensive knowledge of U. S. GAAP and a solid grasp of ASC 606 for subscription revenue. Hands-on experience with Xero or similar ERP systems, including integrations with Stripe, Ramp, TaxJar, and Expensify/Bill Pay. A proven ability to build financial processes from the ground up and automate routine tasks effectively. Experience coordinating R&D tax credit studies or collaborating with specialized firms is a significant advantage. Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets (arrays, Power Query, scenario modeling). Excellent communication skills to convey financial concepts to non-finance colleagues. Must be authorized to work in the U. S. and able to commute daily to our Houston headquarters.

Why This Role is Crucial

  • As we experience rapid ARR growth alongside multi-currency revenue streams and the complexities introduced by our German subsidiary, we need an in-house Controller to enhance our financial processes.
  • This position requires a presence in our Houston office five days a week, positioning you as the key financial leader on-site.

Your Responsibilities

  • Oversee the complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes for both the U. S. and Germany, delivering GAAP-compliant financial statements, flux analyses, and board presentations.
  • Implement and refine our finance stack, including Xero, Stripe, Ramp, and TaxJar, and suggest additional tools as needed.
  • Design Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), approval workflows, internal controls, and maintain a well-organized chart of accounts that can withstand audits.
  • Prepare 13-week cash forecasts, annual budgets, and scenario models focusing on ARR, churn, CAC, and headcount.
  • Handle U. S. federal and state income taxes, franchise taxes, sales tax filings, R&D tax credit studies and filings, 1099s/W-8s, and German VAT while coordinating with external CPAs.
  • Review and approve vendor payments, payroll, and employee expenses, optimizing cash management and returns.
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for the leadership team, collaborating with various departments to meet growth and margin objectives.
