Contact Government Services (CGS) is hiring a Controller to oversee accounting and financial management. This is a remote position based in the Washington, DC area, with in-person office visits required at least once a week for mail and administrative duties. The Controller will ensure financial accuracy, maintain compliance, and deliver insights to support the company's growth. Experience in service-driven industries such as legal, IT, or government contracting is especially valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and monthly close activities.
- Prepare and review profit and loss statements and balance sheets to ensure accuracy.
- Manage both cash-based and accrual accounting methods.
- Coordinate annual audits and uphold GAAP compliance.
- Oversee year-end tax filings and related documentation.
- Maintain detailed records, tracking profits at company, project, and resource levels.
- Supervise the generation of approximately 300 invoices per month.
- Handle treasury functions, including banking, lines of credit, and credit card programs.
- Develop and update cash flow and accrual projections for executive leadership.
- Analyze financial data, identify trends, and highlight potential risks.
- Support multiple teams, projects, and clients concurrently.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
Requirements
- Active CPA certification.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous experience serving as a Controller.
- Background in service industries (legal, IT, or government contracting preferred).
- Extensive experience with QuickBooks and Unanet.
- Proven ability to support audits and maintain GAAP compliance.
- Hands-on experience with accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-project financial operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Additional Requirements
- Residency in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area is required.
- Ability to report to the Washington, DC office at least once per week for mail and administrative tasks.
