About the job

Contact Government Services (CGS) is hiring a Controller to oversee accounting and financial management. This is a remote position based in the Washington, DC area, with in-person office visits required at least once a week for mail and administrative duties. The Controller will ensure financial accuracy, maintain compliance, and deliver insights to support the company's growth. Experience in service-driven industries such as legal, IT, or government contracting is especially valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and monthly close activities.
  • Prepare and review profit and loss statements and balance sheets to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage both cash-based and accrual accounting methods.
  • Coordinate annual audits and uphold GAAP compliance.
  • Oversee year-end tax filings and related documentation.
  • Maintain detailed records, tracking profits at company, project, and resource levels.
  • Supervise the generation of approximately 300 invoices per month.
  • Handle treasury functions, including banking, lines of credit, and credit card programs.
  • Develop and update cash flow and accrual projections for executive leadership.
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, and highlight potential risks.
  • Support multiple teams, projects, and clients concurrently.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.

Requirements

  • Active CPA certification.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous experience serving as a Controller.
  • Background in service industries (legal, IT, or government contracting preferred).
  • Extensive experience with QuickBooks and Unanet.
  • Proven ability to support audits and maintain GAAP compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-project financial operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Residency in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area is required.
  • Ability to report to the Washington, DC office at least once per week for mail and administrative tasks.
