About the job
Title: Director of Data Center Construction & Engineering (AI/HPC)
Location: Austin, TX area / On-Site
Reports To: CTO / VP of Infrastructure
Job Type: Full-time
The Opportunity:
Join us in shaping the infrastructure that drives the future of Artificial Intelligence. We are looking for a highly experienced Director of Data Center Construction & Engineering to spearhead the comprehensive development of our state-of-the-art 50MW AI Inference Data Center. This project transcends typical colocation builds; you will be tasked with designing and executing a high-density, liquid-cooling-ready facility specifically tailored for extensive inference workloads. You will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from site master planning and permitting to commissioning and operational transfer.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Planning & Design Master Planning: Lead master planning for the 50MW campus, ensuring optimal power and space utilization for high-density AI compute racks (50kW–100kW+ per rack). Collaborate with compute architects to design MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems that meet the unique cooling needs of inference hardware, including Direct-to-Chip (DLC) and Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx) solutions. Define appropriate redundancy levels (N+1, 2N) to meet real-time inference SLAs, balancing uptime with total cost of ownership (TCO).
2. Construction & Project Delivery EPC Management: Select and oversee Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms, General Contractors, and subcontractors. Manage the capital budget (over $XXX M+) and master schedule, ensuring critical path activities meet deadlines without compromising safety or quality. Develop procurement strategies for long-lead equipment (generators, chillers, CDUs, switchgear) to navigate supply chain challenges.
3. Power & Cooling Engineering: Foster relationships with local utility providers to secure substation delivery and ramp up power capacity to 50MW. Oversee the implementation of advanced cooling systems necessary for next-gen GPUs/TPUs, ensuring PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) targets of less than 1.2 are achieved.
4. Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs and construction activities adhere to local building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards (OSHA/HSE).
