Join our dynamic team as a Cooking Instructor for our afterschool program at PS 166! This is a unique opportunity to ignite curiosity and creativity in young minds, introducing students from Kindergarten to 5th grade to the fundamentals of cooking, food science, and nutrition. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can foster a safe and engaging environment where students can discover new ingredients, follow recipes, and proudly present their culinary creations to family and friends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct age-appropriate cooking lessons that prioritize fun, safety, and essential culinary skills.
- Develop and lead engaging recipes that expose students to diverse foods, cultures, and kitchen tools.
- Prepare and organize ingredients and materials prior to each class session.
- Facilitate hands-on activities such as mixing, measuring, chopping (safely!), and decorating.
- Assist students in creating simple, take-home recipes or edible projects to share with their families.
- Collaborate with administration to track student progress and uphold behavioral expectations.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding student and program-related matters.
- Utilize company-wide digital platforms for administrative tasks (e.g., attendance, incident reports).
- Maintain a clean and organized cooking area, adhering to all safety and food-handling protocols.
This is you:
- Experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred.
- Proficient in basic kitchen skills and leading hands-on cooking activities.
- Punctual, reliable, and passionate about teaching.
- Strong classroom management and communication abilities.
- Capable of maintaining a safe and hygienic learning environment.
Schedule:
- Days: Monday & Tuesday (part-time availability)
- Time: 2:40 PM - 5:40 PM (split into two sessions: early session 2:40 PM-4:20 PM and late session 4:20 PM-5:40 PM)
- The season starts on September 4th, and we seek candidates who can commit for the entire 2025-2026 school year.
