The Inpatient Medical Coder, under the direction of the Coding and Data Quality Manager, is responsible for accurately coding inpatient hospital accounts. This role is crucial in ensuring appropriate reimbursement, conducting research, generating statistics, and complying with federal and state regulations, utilizing established ICD-10-CM/PCS coding classification systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate inpatient cases and assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnostic and PCS procedural codes to facilitate reimbursement, research, and compliance with regulations. Exhibit a thorough understanding of coding terminology to ensure precise MS-DRG MCC/CC and APR-DRG/SOI/ROM and POA classifications.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding practices, ensuring adherence to compliance standards.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay updated on coding guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Assist in coding audits and quality assurance processes to maintain accuracy in coding practices.
