Full-time|$170K/yr - $220K/yr|On-site|Emeryville, California

About Atomic Machines Atomic Machines is pioneering a transformative approach to micromanufacturing through its innovative Matter Compiler™ technology. This comprehensive technology allows for the design and construction of advanced micromachines by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that surpasses traditional semiconductor methods. It is set to revolutionize MEMS manufacturing for numerous device categories that have been limited by conventional fabrication techniques, and to introduce entirely new product categories. The Matter Compiler™ embodies the vision of digital manufacturing: raw materials and digital inputs yield fully functional micromachines. Our team is also excited to soon unveil an initial device made possible by this groundbreaking technology. Our offices are situated in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California. About The Role: We are in search of a Senior Test Development Engineer to take the lead in establishing how Atomic Machines will validate new classes of devices. As we build a revolutionary robotic manufacturing platform—the Matter Compiler™—from the ground up, this role offers the chance to explore new materials and processes, allowing for the fabrication of devices not feasible in standard fabrication environments. This often means there is no predefined approach to testing. You will be responsible for creating test strategies for devices with unknown failure modes, unclear requirements, and strict manufacturing constraints. Success in this role will require building foundational models, identifying sources of error, and making trade-offs among accuracy, throughput, cost, and scalability. You will be tasked with not just executing existing test plans, but defining test strategies for new devices. Working within the test group, you'll tackle complex multidisciplinary challenges. You'll have the opportunity to design novel tests from initial specifications through design, build custom hardware, and integrate it into a comprehensive system. Your test development may encompass mechanical fixtures, circuit board design, firmware development, integration of existing equipment, and managing the entire data lifecycle—defining how data is gathered, validated, stored, and analyzed to enhance product performance, conduct failure analysis, and guide manufacturing decisions. Collaboration with colleagues from Device Design, Go-To-Market, and Production will be essential to specify, implement, and validate tests. The ideal candidate will possess a robust electrical engineering background complemented by strong analytical abilities, creativity, and a generalist approach. There are often multiple pathways to developing a test, and skillfully navigating design, fabrication, and results trade-offs will be crucial to your success.
