Cloud & Platform Engineer

Job Purpose

We are looking for a skilled Cloud & Platform Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in the evolution and execution of our cloud platform strategy. This position primarily focuses on Microsoft Azure while also leveraging knowledge of AWS and GCP as needed.

In this critical role, you will facilitate the transition of workloads from on-premise systems to cloud-based environments. You will contribute to the design and ongoing maintenance of secure, scalable landing zones, ensuring that our cloud platforms are resilient, compliant, and cost-efficient. Additionally, you will support our cloud backup and recovery strategies, utilizing tools like Rubrik to safeguard data across hybrid and cloud settings.

Reporting directly to the Lead Cloud & Platform Engineer, you will be vital in minimizing our reliance on legacy data centers and expediting our cloud adoption journey. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to ensure the reliability, security, and compliance of our systems while advancing infrastructure modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of legacy platforms, experience in vulnerability management, and practical skills in executing cloud migrations to ensure seamless and secure transitions.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Strategy & Architecture

• Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and the broader Engineering team to define and manage the cloud platform strategy and target architecture.
• Assist in the design and maintenance of Azure landing zones, focusing on:
  • Network design
  • Identity integration
  • Security measures
  • Governance and policy
• Evaluate and recommend cloud services and patterns that align with business objectives.

Migration and Modernization

• Support the Lead Cloud & Platform Engineer in migrating on-premise systems to cloud environments.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineering to:
  • Map application and infrastructure dependencies
  • Identify migration strategies (re-hosting, re-platforming, re-architecting, decommissioning)
• Assist in data center exit strategies and decommissioning processes.

Platform Engineering & Reliability

• Develop and manage scalable cloud platforms through Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems across cloud environments.
• Ensure platforms meet established availability, performance, and recovery objectives.
• Support incident response and resolution of complex issues.
• Partner with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Operations teams to enhance reliability and automation.

Backup, Recovery & Resilience

• Assist in managing the cloud and hybrid backup strategy under the guidance of the Lead Cloud & Platform Engineer.
• Design and manage backup and recovery systems (e.g., Rubrik).
• Ensure comprehensive data protection across various environments.
